I hope this letter finds you well. I, Rehan Allahwala, would like to draw your attention to a very critical issue that I frequently observe while driving in Karachi city.

From my daily observations, it seems that around seven out of ten motorcycles have either broken or completely non-functional headlights. This situation poses a serious risk not only to the riders themselves but also to other motorists and pedestrians, leading to potential accidents. To address this issue, I request that you discuss this matter in your internal meetings and take strong actions to resolve it.

I propose that the fine for having a broken or non-functional headlight should be increased to Rs. 5,000. This way, those who attempt to bribe their way out of the penalty will at least need to pay Rs. 2,000-2,500, ensuring that the matter is not easily overlooked. This would encourage the public to comply with the law and also enhance road safety.

Furthermore, motorcycles with noisy silencers and those emitting excessive smoke are not only detrimental to the environment but also to public health. These violations should also be met with stricter fines to discourage such unlawful and unsafe practices.

Another important point is that Pakistani citizens living abroad, in countries like Dubai and Saudi Arabia, strictly follow traffic rules. The main reason for this is the heavy fines imposed for violations. In these countries, people are forced to comply with the law due to the hefty penalties. However, in Pakistan, the fines are minimal, and they have remained the same for the past 50 years. As a result, people do not take traffic rules seriously and frequently violate them.

I humbly request that you consider these suggestions and enforce stricter penalties, so that the condition of vehicles on the roads can improve, and the public can be spared from the inconvenience caused by reckless drivers.
