You know who built the Burj Khalifa?... It wasn't Emaar... Emaar just funded the project and put its name on it... but the actual construction has been done by Samsung. In 1938, a 28 year old named Lee Byung Chul decided to start a trading company that would sell fish, veges and noodles. They reinvested their profits from trading into manufacturing something that had a huge demand - sugar, by setting up a sugar refinery in 1954. Four years later, they set up a textile mill and then slowly got into apparel. In the next decade, it also entered financial services and insurance - and is today, the largest insurance company of South Korea. By then they were already so huge, that the founder saw an opportunity of the future - electronics... and by 1978, Samsung ended up becoming the largest TV manufacturer in the world. They soon started making ACs, Microwaves... And when they realised that they were highly dependent on imports of semiconductors, they started manufacturing them too - in fact, even started supplying them to its largest competitor - Apple. It ended up becoming a shipbuilder in the 2000s and even set up Samsung Construction & Technology that constructed the Petronas Towers in KL followed by the Burj Khalifa - while also making bridges and highways on the side. That's not all... the company is also into - Theme parks (Samsung Everland) Universities (Sungkyunkwan University) Hospitals (Samsung Medical Center) Hotels (The Shilla) At this point, it's easier to list what Samsung doesn't do.
