Zeb-un-Nisa was the daughter of Emperor Aurangzeb and a poetess of Persian. She was born in Daulatabad, Deccan, in 1638. After 20 years of imprisonment, she died in captivity in Shahjahanabad, while Aurangzeb was on a trip to the Deccan. Her tomb was originally located in the garden of "Thirty thousand trees" (Tees Hazari), outside of the Kashmiri Darwaza, the north gate of the city. However, when the railway line was laid out by the British at Delhi, her tomb with its inscribed tombstone was shifted to Akbar's mausoleum at Sikandra, Agra[3][6]. There is also a tomb in Nawankot, Lahore, Pakistan, but its authenticity is doubtful. The tomb in Lahore is located near Samnabad and most of its decorations and marble were removed by Maharajah Ranjit Singh to be placed on the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The tomb is rare for its plan and design of roof. The pyramidal dome, curvilinear externally and hemispherical internally, is a specimen of its own class[1][2][4][5].
