As many of you might know, I've been using the pink Himalaya salt from Pakistan as an example of (missing) added value of exports for more than a decade. Whereas this is very good news for Pakistan - hopefully it's a real news, too - we're still back with the fundamentals: like 90+ per cent of the branding of pink salt in the European market is done by European companies, where Pakistani pink salt becomes like Italian (certainly a Grande Salute to Italians), sometimes French, Swedish or even Finnish brand, and even if/when a American-Canadian-Pakistani-whoever company would be interested about the mining part, in the B2C market it is only about branding. But yes, even modern and intelligent mining part is surely welcomed to Pakistan! $42 per ton is pretty nice 😉 Just for your information, the retail price - depending on the package and branding - of pink Himalaya salt in Scandinavia is around 50-400 euros per kg. Depending on the brand and package, so yeah, some added value takes place somewhere! If every layer would take e.g a 50 per cent share, you can count backwards. In the Northern Europe the game is over already, the branding-wise I mean. In the US market the use of salt is (still) very different, so hope it will happen. Obviously salt is used in so many more industrial sectors every second, whether it's pink or white, so maybe - and hopefully - this venture will find its space. Frankly speaking, currently the Pakistani Himalaya salt is taken out from the country for free, sold further, and eventually branded by someone else. And there we have the big question: why? Most of you have a non-profit you started or one you support. But these non-profits aren't taking advantage of the free $10,000 that Google gives them each month via the Google Grants program. It's free Google Ads with some minor restrictions-- easy to apply and super powerful-- to drive donations, recruit volunteers, increase visibility, promote events, and educate the public. 501(c)(3)s don't leverage this $10,000 each month (which renews automatically) because they lack the technical resources to implement, don't maintain eligibility, and are generally starved for resources. For the last 15 years, we've been donating time to set up and run Google Grants for free for friends that have non-profits. All we ask is that the non-profit put up a blog post honoring the contribution and allow us to run part of the Google Grants to that post. It's super smart of my friends who are successful founders to be giving back to their community by partnering with local non-profits. Now how about helping them get that $10,000 a month and then smartly tune it? This is the 10 step process below that we use to build and optimize Google Grants. The requirements to have at least a 5% CTR, Quality Scores above 3, at least 2 sitelinks, no branded bidding (except on your own terms), and other rules mean we have to be smarter about campaign setup and topic choice.
