  • “This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.”
Walt Whitman - Preface to ‘Leaves of Grass.”

  • Assalam alaikum Rehan. I am thankful for your page. I wanted to ask you for some insight. My fiance (in Islamabad) and I (Im not Pakistani and live in the US) want to get married in ISB this year, and instead of the usual shaadi stuff, wed like to spend the money towards having the wedding with a charitable cause, such as SOS villages or a food drive for the poor as an extension of walima or mehndi. Id also like to recruit 50 youth volunteers (maybe uni students) to attend the wedding event and give back to their community.

I was wondering if you have any good ideas on what activity we could do? Or any good local organizations in ISB that may be receptive to hosting our wedding? Tree planting, trash pick up, and food for the poor are the current ideas. When I get the idea down, I will crowdfund in the US to raise money and sponsor the event.

    Thanks so much. Allah hafez.
