How can anyone justify what the doctor did?
All the comments defending the doctor are making my blood boil.
Going to a doctors office is supposed to be a safe space for us. We should be able to trust our doctor. We share very personal details about ourselves with our doctor. We allow them to examine our bodies (in a professional capacity). We share with them our thoughts and fears. We are vulnerable.
A doctor and patient relationship should never be anything other than professional (for ethical reasons). A doctor is NOT your friend just like your therapist, boss or teacher is NOT your friend. Sending a friend request to someone is not wrong in and of itself. However, a doctor misusing information obtained for medical purposes (name, address, phone number etc) to add a patient on Facebook is highly unethical. I dont understand how some people cant comprehend that. He violated his patients trust and took away her safe space. For heavens sake she was at the ER. This culture of victim blaming is disgusting. In a doctor patient relationship the doctor holds the power. In a police officer and inmate relationship the police officer holds the power. In a teacher student relationship the teacher holds the power. Do you see what Im getting at? It is WRONG.
If youre someone who thinks that reporting a doctor who misused medical information is an overreaction (on the patients part) then you are part of the problem. You are part of the reason why women dont report sexual harassment or harassment and should be ashamed of yourself.... (reposted)
