I have been living in Houston for a long time. For all those who were here in the early nineties there was a trend of having chand raat celebrations. For years it was families coming together and meeting each other wishing a happy eid. Local aunties volunteering to put henna and also light snacks were served.
Then that innocent get together became commercialized and it became more like a party with live music and vendors selling clothes and also charging for henna and bangles. Less and less families and more guys and girls started coming out and it became a place to intermingle and do all those things that were disliked by Allah SWT.
It reached a limit when non Muslims started crashing "Chand Raat" celebrations and bringing alcohol with them. Fights started to break out and even police was called to break up those fights.

After that people started boycotting these unislamic ways to celebrate Chand Raat.

Islam allows us to have fun and celebrate a joyous occasion. So please follow those ways. We work so hard for 30 days asking Allah SWT for guidance and forgiveness, and on the night when our report card is handed to us, lets not do things that are disliked by Allah SWT.
Plenty of masajid have programs where you can celebrate that night before eid. Please join those celebrations and please Allah SWT rather listening to your nafs.

JazakAllah Kher

May Allah SWT accept our fast
Eid Mubarak
