The Tale of Two Sisters
Once, a lonely man lived all by himself.
One day, the Goddess of Pleasant Virtue knocked on his door. She brought with her joy, prosperity, and love.
The man welcomed her warmly, delighted that fortune had finally come into his life.
But soon after, another knock came.
Standing there was a dark, sorrowful figure who introduced herself:
“I am the Goddess of Unpleasant Darkness.
I bring poverty, failure, and loneliness.
Wherever my sister goes, I follow.
If you invite her in, you must also invite me.
We are a pair. You cannot accept one without the other.”
The man was stunned. He wanted happiness without sorrow, gain without loss, love without loneliness.
But the goddess reminded him:
“In life, light and shadow walk hand in hand.
To enjoy one, you must accept the other.”
And so it is with us: good fortune and hardship are inseparable twins.
