The term "Kung Fu" (also spelled "Gong Fu" in Pinyin, the Romanization system for Chinese) has a broader meaning in Chinese language and culture than it's often perceived in the West. In Mandarin Chinese, "Kung Fu" (功夫) translates to "skill achieved through hard work" or "mastery achieved through time and effort." It encompasses any skill that is developed through learning and practice, not just martial arts.
