Attracting Good Leaders 为民服务 is not 为名服务. Service is not for Fame. The privilege to serve the people is an honor. To those devoted to improving our society, this is the reward itself to see so many people improve their quality of lives through your work. This opportunity to devote one's life to others at policy making level is priceless for those with the humility to understand this. Those distracted by Fame, Power, Money and Status are not the best breed. They tend to be elitist and aloft. The reason it is hard to attract good spirited and capable people to politics (both in ruling in opposition parties) is not because the pay is too low. It is because the spirit is too low. We need to build strong nation building culture so that the more good people are willing to come forward serve. Just like finding a spouse: Money is needed to pay bills, but if there is no Love, it is unsustainable. Via Jack Sim
