READ: Malala’s statement on the Gaza-Israel conflict, calling for restraint and peace.
"I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the bloodshed in the ongoing Gaza-Israel conflict which has led to the death of more than 260 Palestinians and 2 Israelis. Most of those killed and injured have been innocent civilians, with at least 59 Palestinian children killed. Four young boys simply playing hide and seek were killed in Gaza yesterday by an Israeli strike.
We must join together to condemn all violence, especially violence against innocent civilians and children.
I myself have suffered from the devastating violence of war and conflict in Swat valley, my beautiful hometown in Pakistan, where more than 400 schools were destroyed, education for girls was banned and many people were killed. Today children in Gaza are suffering through similar trauma from conflict.
We all should stand up for peace. I call upon the international community to immediately broker a cease-fire between Gaza and Israel. The violence must stop now. I call upon Israel and Hamas to lay down their arms.
Let us respect each others religious beliefs and live together in peace, which is the message of all religions. I urge all parties involved to move forward with a peace process that ensures the dignity and prosperity of all people, without violence and terrorism." -Malala Yousafzai
