One chilly evening, Mulla Nasrudin appeared in the marketplace wearing a worn-out cloak that looked ordinary to everyone around him. Curious people asked why he valued such an old piece of clothing so much. With a mysterious smile, Mulla replied, "This is no ordinary cloak—it has magic."
The crowd gathered eagerly, hoping to witness something extraordinary. As the day went on, Mulla visited different places. At a wealthy merchant's house, he was welcomed with respect and offered a delicious feast. Later, after removing the cloak and dressing simply, he returned to the same house—but this time, no one recognized him, and he was turned away at the door.
The next day, Mulla returned wearing the cloak again. Once more, he received a warm welcome and was invited to dine. As the food was served, Mulla gently dipped the sleeve of his cloak into the soup and said, "Eat, my magic cloak, eat!"
The guests were shocked and asked what he was doing. Mulla smiled and explained, "Yesterday, when I came without this cloak, I was ignored. Today, with the cloak, I am treated like an honored guest. Clearly, the food is meant for the cloak, not for me."
Everyone fell silent, realizing they had judged a person by appearance instead of character.
