One evening, the villagers noticed Mulla Nasrudin searching carefully under a bright street lamp. He was looking so seriously that several people stopped to help him.
“Mulla, what are you looking for?” one man asked.
“My ring,” replied Nasrudin. “I have lost my favorite ring.”
The villagers joined the search. They looked under the lamp, around the road, and even in the nearby grass. But after a long time, nobody could find the ring.
Finally, an old neighbor asked, “Mulla, are you sure you lost the ring here?”
Nasrudin shook his head.
“No,” he said. “I lost it inside my house.”
The villagers stared at him in surprise.
“If you lost it inside your house,” they cried, “why are you searching out here?”
Nasrudin pointed to the lamp and smiled.
“Because there is much more light out here than inside my house!”
Everyone laughed at Mulla’s strange answer. But after thinking about it, they realized there was wisdom hidden in his joke. People often search for solutions where it is easy and comfortable, instead of where the real problem exists.
Moral: Always look for answers where the problem truly lies, not where it is easiest to search. See less
