I wish to introduce a great architect of healing the wounds, a man who worked ceaselessly over the years to build trust faith and reconciliation between the people of Bangladesh and Pakistan! This is none other than Ambassador Rafiuzzaman Siddiqui Siddiqui, former High Commissioner of Pakistan at Dhaka! Here is a man of humility and self-realisation who had recently called me up and said to me that he still considered Dhaka to be home and that even today, while his physical body was in Pakistan, his heart and soul still lay in Bangladesh, where our culture, language and civilization beckoned him! Truly enough, I recollect with amazing delight, when he would make it a regular feature to celebrate Pohela Baisakh at his Chancery premises, with Bangla folk songs and our way of cultural designs. I saw him move passionately in the midst of little children , participate in dance sequences with spontaneity with the rythm of Baishakhi folk lyrics! There was no dearth of affection to express his deep sense of respect and regard for the essence of our Bangla culture. He used to arrange Boishakhi stalls, serving food like pitha, fuchka and every little dainty detail to reconstruct compassion! Here was a man who had served his tenure during the difficult years of the Hasina policy of alienation from Pakistan , when life and culture had been subject to the terribly humiliating penetration of the Indian intellgence torture machine in many aspects of our very existence. Ambassador Siddiky still works ceaselessly to rebuild links between our two peoples who still feel the bonds of many good memories of aesthetic reconciliation! He had ancestral links with the early years of Pakistan's existence in the times of giants like HS Suhrawardy, Sher e Bangla AK Fazlul Haq in the sense that a former Governer in this part of the country, Chouhury Khaliquzzaman, happened to be his grandfather. I have known him over the years, ever loyal to the memory of his hard work and endeavours to build bridges of amity, lasting lifelong bonds of durable affection while he lives in Karachi, preserving his fond memories of Bangladesh! I would like to wish a healthy continuity of his passionate links to our people culture and the urge of human dignity as we move along the path of the Almighty Creator, the wealth of mother nature in all its bounty!
