Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows users to make phone calls over the Internet by transmitting voice data in digital form. While the concept of using the Internet for voice communication dates back to the 1970s, the first commercial Internet phone software was developed by VocalTec, a company founded by Israeli entrepreneurs Amir Ben-Artzi and Alon Cohen, in the 1990s. VocalTec's Internet phone software, called "Internet Phone," was launched in 1995 and quickly became popular, with more than 1 million users within the first year. This marked the beginning of the VoIP industry and paved the way for the widespread adoption of VoIP technology.
