Ahmed, a wealthy and impatient young merchant, marched up and pointed an accusing finger. "Best price? Nasrudin, it looks like a dust mop! What’s your price? Fifty gold coins?"
Nasrudin spread his hands innocently. "Fifty gold? Far too much!"
Ahmed slammed two copper coins onto the table. "Don’t play games. Give me a number or I'm leaving!"
A crowd gathered, sensing a classic Nasrudin lesson. The Mulla looked at the donkey, then at Ahmed. "Young master, the donkey itself is cheap. For you? Just five copper coins! A bargain!"
Ahmed blinked, completely confused. "Five copper? But your sign says 'Best Price'!"
"Exactly," Nasrudin nodded sagely. "The donkey is cheap. But I am not just selling the donkey."
"Then what are you selling?" Ahmed demanded.
Nasrudin leaned in conspiratorially. "While the donkey is only five coppers, the limited supply of *patience* you need to actually own him? That is very, *very* expensive."
