The judge asked the merchant, "Do you have any proof that the bag belongs to you?" The merchant confidently replied, "Yes! My bag has a special scent, and the one Mulla has is mine." Mulla Nasruddin smiled and said, "Your Honor, if this bag truly belongs to him, then he should know exactly how many coins are inside." The judge agreed and asked the merchant to state the number of coins. The merchant became nervous and gave different answers—first 100, then 120, and finally 110. Mulla then opened the bag in front of everyone. It contained only 75 gold coins. The judge declared, "A true owner would know how many coins were in his own bag. This accusation is false."
