  • Strawberry season is here

Strawberries are not only delicious but also packed with various health benefits, making them a great addition to a balanced diet. Here are some key benefits of eating strawberries:

    1. **Rich in Nutrients**: Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C, which is essential for immune system function and skin health. They also provide manganese, folate, and potassium.

    2. **High in Antioxidants**: Strawberries contain high levels of antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and resveratrol. These compounds help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, which can prevent chronic diseases.

    3. **Heart Health**: The antioxidants and potassium in strawberries can help reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure and increasing HDL (good) cholesterol levels.

    4. **Weight Management**: Being low in calories and high in water and fiber, strawberries can promote fullness and reduce appetite, aiding in weight management.

    5. **Blood Sugar Regulation**: Despite their sweetness, strawberries have a low glycemic index and may help improve blood sugar control, which is particularly beneficial for managing diabetes.

    6. **Cancer Prevention**: Some studies suggest that the antioxidants in strawberries might help suppress the growth of cancer cells.

    7. **Improved Skin Health**: The vitamin C in strawberries is vital for collagen production, which can enhance skin elasticity and resilience.

    8. **Eye Health**: Antioxidants in strawberries can also help prevent cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases.

Incorporating strawberries into your diet can be a tasty and nutritious way to enjoy a range of health benefits. They can be eaten fresh, frozen, in smoothies, salads, or as a natural sweetener in various dishes.

  • The Silent Poison: How Chronic Stress Destroys the Brain Without Us Knowing

And why people in poverty or illness need mental health support even more than medicine or money.

Real-World Scenario: The Everyday Life of Toxic Stress

Imagine this life — which millions live every day:
    • Your father has been sick in bed for two years. You’re his caregiver, nurse, and breadwinner.
    • You live in a broken-down neighborhood where there’s garbage in the streets, water once a week, and frequent power cuts.
    • You earn on daily wages. If you don’t work, you don’t eat. There’s no safety net, no backup.
    • Your child wants new shoes. You want to say yes. But there’s only enough money for rice and lentils.
    • You hear about suicide, theft, or violence regularly in your area. The system around you is failing — but you must survive.

Now imagine living like this for months, years, even decades.

You’re not always crying. You’re not yelling. But inside?

Your brain is fighting for its life — every single day.

This is chronic toxic stress — and it’s killing your mental clarity, your peace, and even your physical health — slowly and silently.

The Science: What Toxic Stress Does to Your Brain and Body

Toxic stress is a condition described by Harvard’s Center on the Developing Child and the World Health Organization (WHO) as the prolonged activation of the body’s stress response system without adequate support.

It’s not ordinary stress. It’s unresolved, unrelenting, and often invisible to the person suffering.

Here’s how it damages your brain:
    1. Amygdala (emotional alarm center) becomes overactive
→ You become jumpy, fearful, irritable.
→ Small problems feel like disasters.
    2. Prefrontal Cortex (decision-making area) weakens
→ You lose focus. Make poor financial or family decisions. Can’t plan or think clearly.
→ You may self-sabotage without knowing why.
    3. Hippocampus (memory and learning) shrinks
→ You struggle to remember things, learn new skills, or stay calm.
→ It affects school, work, parenting.
    4. Immune system and heart weaken
→ People with toxic stress have higher risk of diabetes, blood pressure, depression, and heart attacks, according to the American Psychological Association (APA).

The Worst Part: Most People Don’t Even Know It’s Happening

    You may say:
    • “I’m just tired.”
    • “I’m just unlucky.”
    • “It’s life. Everyone struggles.”

But this is not just normal tiredness.
It’s neurological trauma caused by long-term environmental pressure.

Most people living in poverty, illness, war, displacement, or broken families suffer from undiagnosed toxic stress, which:
    • Makes them feel stuck in life
    • Makes them emotionally numb or explosive
    • Makes them blame themselves for being lazy or weak
    • When in reality, their brain is under chemical and cognitive attack

Can It Be Healed? Yes — but Only Through Awareness + Action

Here’s what science and psychology recommend:

    1. Awareness First

    Start by acknowledging:
“I am not weak. I am under pressure. My brain needs help.”

This mental shift is powerful — it breaks shame and opens the door to healing.

    2. Micro-Healing Habits (Backed by Neuroscience)
    • Deep breathing lowers cortisol (stress hormone) in 5 minutes
    • 15 minutes of silence daily resets the nervous system
    • Walking in nature or sun activates serotonin (mood stabilizer)
    • Journaling or talking to a friend releases emotional weight
    • 8 hours of sleep repairs the prefrontal cortex

Even in poverty or illness, small moments of peace are neurologically healing.

    3. Social Connection = Mental Protection

Having one trusted person to talk to regularly can lower the risk of depression by up to 40%, according to a 2022 study by Harvard Medical School.

Final Thought: You’re Not Lazy. You’re Overloaded.

Most people in poverty are told:
    “Work harder.”
    “Think positive.”
    “Be grateful.”

    But the truth is:
You’re not broken. You’re exhausted. You’re overloaded. Your brain is carrying too much.

We don’t just need jobs or education.
    We need mental recovery.
We need spaces where the nervous system can breathe again.

So if you or someone you love lives with illness, poverty, or constant stress — know this:

    Their brain is not okay.
    They’re not weak — they’re wounded.
And just like a broken bone, a stressed brain can heal — with rest, love, and support.

    Dear Rehan,

Upon the current topics of religion on your wall, I have had many ask about my faith. This is how I best described to them my true feelings on the topic.

    RELIGIOUS VIEWS
I believe there is one creator, I dont much care what anyone else calls their creator. So Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Muslim/Christian, Muslim/Islam, I could go on, I dont care what they call their creator, I care only that they care about humanity and that they are respecting of others. Their choice in faith is not my concern it is only between them and their creator. If more people looked at religion this way we would have less hatred in this world. Each spiritual journey is individual and it is the highest form of partnership between oneself and the creator. No two journeys are the same nor should they be. We are all individuals walking on seperate journeys from seperate lands but all seek to do right for our creator no matter what name we use to call the creator of humankind. I do not consider myself Christian because I do not seek to name our creator. I accept everyones name for our creator in their speaking of their spiritual journey. My religion is humanity and my church is the world my fellow parishioners are all humans of various faiths. I have been catholic, Methodist, Protestant, baptist, born again faith, my children went to early Jewish school, I have been episcopalian, naturalistic, I have even been involved in Native American spiritual worship, I have also learned of Buddhism through others, I have learned of Islam. Before I die I hope I get to sit in each religious organization and learn about how they view the creator. Then when my day is called to die I can show the creator that I have followed the spiritual journey I was guided on by our creator and here are my findings. Then and only then will i know if my spiritual journey was fulfilled. What I am saying is I learned the way of those above fellow parishioners of that various faith, just as I am learning of Muslims fellow parishioners of Islam, just as I learn from Jewish fellow parishioners. You see my church is the world...,, it cares not what faith my fellow parishioners are, it still looks to humanity and one creator to guide me! I have never been sure of anything in my life except I know on my sons grave that my spiritual journey is right for me! I am on right path as I accept Allah in the same way I accept God under ONE creator for which I name humanity!

My son died in April 2010 when Our creator in nature produced a microburst windstorm come through the valley we were in and a tree fell over and hit my sons chest. You see I have been to places no religious book can take me. I listen and am guided by the signs I receive in everyday life. It is why I am so close with the creator. I know that our Creator was keeping my son protected from a future pain. Perhaps watching 3 grandparents die from cancer? I dont know the reason but I do know our creator guided me to think this way in my spiritual journey. Our creator guided me to always believe that even in tragedy you can do good. I donated my sons body for tissue bone and eye transplants as well as skin. His brain is at medical center as part of a global gnome project to help cure autism, seizures, cancer, diabetes,Hirschsprungs disease as well as others. His death has given others life. That is highest form of humanity I can see. This is why my religion is not of one faith but of many parishioners I learned from along the way from various faiths all working towards betterment of humanity.

  • I am confident when half a million people can recover in India from diabetes, obesity, heart ailments, and about 20 ailments by eating right and avoiding wrong drink and food, isnt it practical. Lets not worry about Obama care or grump care. Lets care for the sack of caring our families and friends and whoever we can reach out in this global village.
