One day, Mulla Nasrudin decided to sell his donkey. He took it to the market and began looking for a buyer.
A man came up to him and asked, “Mulla, how much do you want for your donkey?”
Mulla replied, “I want fifty gold coins.”
The man was surprised and said, “Fifty gold coins! That is too expensive. Your donkey is not worth that much.”
Mulla smiled and said, “Perhaps you are right, but I am not selling the donkey to you. I am selling it to someone who knows its value!”
The man laughed and walked away.
Soon, another man came and offered Mulla twenty gold coins. Mulla refused.
The man asked, “Why won’t you sell it? I am offering you a fair price!”
Mulla replied, “My friend, if you think the donkey is worth only twenty coins, then you should buy a donkey that costs twenty coins!”

سب لوگ حیران تھے کہ ملا صاحب آخر خاموش کیوں ہیں؟ مگر جب انہوں نے اپنی خاموشی سے ایسا دلچسپ جواب دیا تو سب دیکھتے ہی رہ گئے!

One day, Mulla Nasruddin went to the market with his donkey. A man saw the donkey and asked, “Mulla, how much is your donkey?”
Mulla replied, “It costs 100 gold coins.”
The man said, “That is too expensive! Your donkey is not worth so much.”
Mulla smiled and said, “If you think it is too expensive, tell me how much you want to pay.”
The man offered 50 gold coins. Mulla replied, “No, my donkey is very clever. It knows the way home better than I do!”
The man laughed and offered 75 gold coins. Mulla agreed to sell the donkey for that price.
The man happily bought the donkey, and Mulla went home with a smile.

ایک دھوپ بھرے دن ملا نصرالدین بازار گئے اور ایک خوبصورت قالین خرید لیا۔ جب وہ واپس جانے لگے تو دکاندار اچانک چلایا، ’’ملا صاحب! آپ نے اس قالین کی بہت کم قیمت دی ہے، یہ تو اس سے کہیں زیادہ قیمتی ہے!‘‘ ملا نے حیرت سے پوچھا، ’’اچھا! تو پھر آپ نے مجھے اتنی کم قیمت میں کیوں بیچا؟‘‘ دکاندار کے پاس کوئی جواب نہیں تھا!
**پیراگراف 2: ملا کی چالاکی**
ملا مسکرائے اور بولے، ’’اچھا میرے دوست! اگر یہ قالین اتنا قیمتی ہے تو میں اسے آپ کو واپس کر دیتا ہوں۔‘‘ یہ سن کر دکاندار بہت خوش ہوا۔ اس نے سوچا کہ ملا اپنی غلطی مان رہے ہیں۔ وہ فوراً بولا، ’’بہت خوب! میرا قالین واپس کر دو!‘‘ ملا نے کہا، ’’ضرور! لیکن پہلے آپ میرے پیسے واپس کریں، کیونکہ آپ خود کہہ رہے ہیں کہ قالین بہت قیمتی ہے!‘‘

اس دن کے بعد ملا اپنے گدھے کی مدد سے سامان اٹھاتے اور گاؤں کے لوگوں کی مدد کرتے تھے۔
