"Hello" – Origins of a Simple Greeting

Hello is one of the most common and powerful words in the world. Although it is short and simple, it carries the power to connect people, begin conversations, and create friendships. Every day, millions of people use "Hello" to greet family members, friends, classmates, teachers, neighbours, and even strangers.

The word "Hello" became popular in the late 1800s, especially after the invention of the telephone. When people started making phone calls, inventor Thomas Edison recommended using "Hello" to answer the phone because it was clear and easy to hear. Since then, "Hello" has become the universal greeting used across many countries and cultures.

Saying "Hello" is more than just speaking a word—it is a sign of kindness, respect, and friendliness. A warm greeting can brighten someone's day, make them feel welcome, and create a positive first impression. Whether you are meeting someone for the first time or greeting a close friend, a simple "Hello" opens the door to meaningful communication.

Different languages have their own greetings, but they all share the same purpose: bringing people together. Whether you say Hello, Hi, Assalamu Alaikum, Bonjour, Hola, Namaste, or Konnichiwa, every greeting spreads warmth and respect.

In schools, workplaces, and communities, greeting others politely helps build confidence, improves relationships, and creates a welcoming environment. Teaching children to greet others with respect is an important life skill that encourages good manners and strong social connections.

Never underestimate the power of a simple greeting. One heartfelt "Hello" can start a conversation, create a friendship, inspire confidence, and even change someone's day for the better. Keep smiling, keep greeting, and keep spreading kindness wherever you go!

  • Hi Rehan,

I went from 60 friends to now almost 3,000 and almost 800 followers.

You launched me in to stardom Ha Ha But I have made many wonderful friends.

Helped one young man in college with English and when took test got high scores. I just welcomed dear young man I call son and he calls Mom here this week. he will begin college for his Masters in Chemical Enginering. Took him 3 tries get Visa and he did it. I petitioned second time with Senator , Sherrod Brown to get his Visa. He is delightful and brought my Grandchildren an insight to another culture .

I have been so busy working on my home and hope be here a lot more than have been. You opened doors for me there and I have met so many lovely and wonderful people.

I am still planning visit and we need talk about that will be this summer.

Mr. Rehan I wish you and all your family and staff the most wonderful and happy New Year. I pray many will reach out hand in friendship in 2014. I want to say Thank you for all you did for me to introduce me to the world here. Happy New Year 2014

  • Rehan bhai...thank you for your response and I sincerely apologize I was not aware of the facebook policy of the friend limit...although I did not like that you openly shared my personal message with others, however, if it helps answer the issue of friendship requests of many others who may have experienced something similar then no problem...again, my sincere apologies and I meant no disrespect, rather you are like an elder brother to me and I enjoy getting your facebook status updates in my feed and your interesting questions or statements...kindly accept my sincere apologies from a small brother who was unaware of the facebook policy... also, I would just like to add here a kind suggestion, which is to be careful of peoples comments made, as some are offensive so kindly delete their comments and block them out, because a lot of people, especially those following you or those who are in your friends list, including other family members, relatives and friends can view these obscene and derogatory comments...wish you all the very best of success in your endeavors...peace, best wishes and kind regards...

Answer: there are no deregotary comments, whoever say things are saying them as they see things with the knowledge that they have, if it hurts us , it is only hurting our ego, which means we have ego, which means we have to work on our SELF more !!

  • One tree can start a forest...One smile begins a friendship...One laugh will conquer a gloom...One candle destroys the darkness...too often we underestimate the amazing power of ONE...everyone is fighting a battle we know nothing about...a simple touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring...all of which have the potential to turn a life around....all it takes is ONE person...to make the difference...and each one of us is that ONE person

  • I introduced a Israeli Facebook Friend of mine to A Palestinian Friend of mine in the refugee camp, They both were talking for the last few days, and Today my friend called me and was totally moved by this man.

The Israeli friend said that this Palestinian man is same like me, and has same homes and desires and wishes, And he wants to meet more and more of the Palestinians, as it was amazing for him to talk to them and make a new friend on the other side of the border.

He talked and talked for 30 mins on a long distance very expensive call about this, and I could feel and see that he finally understand what i was trying to show him.

He gave an Idea that we should do this where each person should Introduce one friend of his to the other person, and then they would introduce another person to this person, and so on and so forth, making it into a large chain of friendship.

I would love to make an app that can facilitate this into a game, where people can see how many people were introduced by you to whom,

Please share your ideas on this project, and if you can guide how to make this facebook app or if you can make one.
