**"If you don’t build your dream, someone else will hire you to help build theirs." — Tony Gaskins**

Every person has dreams, goals, and a unique purpose, but those dreams only become reality through action. Tony Gaskins' powerful quote reminds us that if we don't invest our time and energy into creating the life we want, we may end up spending our efforts helping someone else achieve their vision. While there's nothing wrong with working for others, it's important to make time to pursue your own ambitions as well.

Building your dream doesn't happen overnight. It requires dedication, learning, consistency, and the courage to take the first step. Whether your dream is starting a business, creating content, learning new skills, or making a positive impact, every small action brings you closer to success. Don't let fear, doubt, or procrastination keep your goals on hold.

**Believe in your vision, work with purpose, and never stop investing in yourself. The future belongs to those who dare to build their own dreams—one step at a time.**

  • t’s No #SiliconValley, but #Pakistan is Building Its Own Startup Scene. #Technology http://www.newsweek.com/pakistan-building-silicon-valley-scene-426408

In the past five years, Pakistan’s startup ecosystem has grown from a nascent colony to a self-sustaining environment. Zameen, an online real estate startup based in Lahore, has ridden that startup wave in developing a Zillow-like app and website that allows users to search and buy real estate listings in Pakistan’s largest cities.

Like many famous U.S. internet companies, Zameen started with a gamble. In 2006, Zeeshan Ali Khan and his brother left their e-commerce business in the United Kingdom to move to Pakistan and started Zameen in their bedrooms. Back then, online-only services in Pakistan were rare, but Ali Khan followed the money coming into Pakistani real estate from expats living abroad—a million of whom lived in the United Kingdom. Now Zameen employees 500 people and has offices in nearly all major cities in Pakistan.

“Zameen.com came into being when we realised there was a desperate need for a trustworthy online real estate enterprise in Pakistan, especially given the importance the average Pakistani attaches to property,” Ali Khan tells Newsweek in an email. “Back then the state of internet infrastructure in Pakistan was extremely poor but the offline property market was exploding. Facilitated by large investments from the Pakistani diaspora, people found that investing in real estate would earn them significant returns.”

Pakistan’s fast-growing economy and, perhaps more importantly, large English-speaking population has provided a backbone to encourage startups to form and work with foreign companies.

The country has seen startup hubs form around elite universities in cities like Lahore and Karachi—similar to Boston and San Francisco—in the last few years. The Punjab province, where Lahore is located, has been the major hotspot for startups in Pakistan. Plan9, the Punjab provincial government-run technology incubator, hosts over 80 startups. Ali Khan believes there are 140 startups in Lahore, a city of 5 million people.

But Pakistani startups are still minnows compared to those in Silicon Valley. Cultural and economic norms, like being predominantly reliant on cash for transactions, are big obstacles for startups. Despite leading the South Asian region in consumers using mobile payments, only 9 percent of Pakistani men and 2 percent of women have used mobile phones for money transfers. Around 39 percent of Americans have used mobile banking in 2015, according to a report from the Federal Reserve.

To accommodate its cash-based users, Zameen employs motorcycle riders to collect payments from Zameen agents across 30 Pakistani cities in person. “The situation is improving, and a lot of people are beginning to feel more comfortable with online payments and even mobile transactions,” says Ali Khan.

Earning public trust for a little-known startup—a concept now just becoming understood in Pakistan—was a big challenge as well. When Zameen began, it discovered most of the Pakistani property market undocumented, and reliable data was nearly non-existent.

Pakistani consumers, including Ali Khan’s family, had a hard time becoming comfortable with Zameen and its Silicon Valley-inspired ideas. “My family was a little apprehensive when I told them I wanted to start a business of my own,” Ali Khan says. “Today however, the attitudes have greatly changed, thanks to the startup ecosystem that is supporting the startup culture in Pakistan.”

The two biggest hurdles Zameen and fellow startups face are the low penetration rates of 3G/4G mobile Internet and the lack of support from its government. In 2015, only 22 million out of 182 million Pakistanis had 3G/4G technology, leaving little room for startups to continue growing and scale upwards with their online services.

Infrastructural issues like 3G/4G technology need the government’s help, but such support has been lacking, according to Ali Khan.

  • I was thinking of adding this as a comment, but I think it will be more appropriate to msg you, if you feel like it you can post this, or ignore this if you do not want this on your wall.
Many people these days are concerned with earning enough to get by. One of the most used words is "investment". There are some who say that they will invest money for you, others say that they will tell you how to invest money. The end result that they give is you getting a financial gain. I, too, would like to ask you to make an investment. However the investment I am asking you to make requires time, money and dedication. I would like you to invest in yourself BEFORE looking for a job.
Let me explain. The majority of people who are looking for a job these days are young and educated. However they lack specific niche based tutoring. For example, a person who has done Masters in computer science would like a job. Now this person knows a lot about computers, and has an idea about programming. But he was taught a lot of different things while in university, and his teaching was not focused on one thing. So he will try to get his hands on every little job that is out there. This is the worst thing that you can do with yourself.
If you are a literate person, who has a degree, even if you are bachelor. And you are looking for a job, NEVER rush into things. Rather invest in yourself. Let us continue with the example of a person who has a degree in CS. He will try to find a job in web designing, he will try to find a job in app designing, he will try to find a job in back end development, front end development, hell he will develop wordpress themes if he is given the opportunity.
However, he would not be doing what he likes. He will be stuck in a job that he does not like. So how does one remedy this? the only solution is to invest some time and money in getting yourself ready for the job. The steps are quote simple.
    1) Identify what you like doing. This is also called "identifying your niche". This is crucial. If you are doing what you like/love you will do it better, you will have less stress. Even if the workload is monumental, you will not be stressed. Ever wonder why the people like Bill gates and MArk Zuckerberg are always looking happy? While a person doing 7 hour shift in a software house is deadbate by the time he gets home? THESE guys actually LOVE what they do. You never get tired watching a good movie, so for these guys thier work is like a movie. So identify that one thing that you like doing, that which is like a movie to you, It can be anything. NEVER by shy and NEVEr tell yourself that what you like doing "Does not matter". In my example the person may like designing websites, or perhaps he like to make apps.
    2) Identify the best possible way to become an expert in what you do. Now if you are making apps, one of the best ways to do so is by using a language called Javascript. So in order to be an expert in App design you must be an expert in Java script. There are many ways to learn Java script, but if you are holding a degree, then teach yourself. Use the internet. Getting spoonfed information in a classroom is for underage newbies. After graduation, teach yourself. It exposes you to real situations that you will face when you are working. Use the internet, especially if you are going to learn about anything connected to computers or tech. In my example the person trying to learn Javascript will most probably frequent websites such as stackoverflow and github. When you learn online, you must make sure that you become part of a number of communities. Online forums exist to make collaboration easier. So learn through them and with them.
    3) Make the best effort. Yes the "best" effort, not the hardest effort. The best effort is when you get from point A to point B with the least amount of energy. your goal is to learn something, so make sure you are not wasting time and energy. There can be a lot of distractions. For example
    a) You spend your time online watching stuff on youtube etc. This is your life you are watching going to waste. Every single minute you are online, must be spent getting ahead.
    b) Do not spend more than TWO and Half hours online or studying. Divide your study into five parts. Pick a topic, study it for 30 minutes. TAKE a 5 minute break. Study for 30 more minutes. Do it four times then rest. Think about what you learned.
    c) Do not lose yourself in the online world. Meet other people, real people, the best way is to just go for a bunch of interviews. Many young people who are looking for jobs, especially IT jobs complete thier university education and are thrust into offices. Some of them, who are quite brilliant in what they do, lack people skills. The reason is that while in university, they hung out with friends, then they went straight to jobs. Hanging out does not develop people skills. When you are working in an office, you need to know your limits and your position.
d)Last but not the Least, rather the most important. Never get your expectations high. People will feed you crap about "aim high". Not a single person in the world who succeeded ever "aimed high". Google were ready to sell to Amazon for a mere million dollars. Facebook was never designed to be the behemoth it is now. However LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN expectations and real life risk/reward trade off. Expectation is when you start work and you think "Ok, I am going to earn $50", the risk/reward trade off is that when you have actually worked 8 hours and created something, you value your product at $50 because you know its market value. So ALWAYS value products, NEVER value efforts.
    4) The last step in investing in yourself is to create your image. These days many people will rush into applications and job seeking without realizing that a polished images goes a long way. Take for example a comparison of two people with same qualifications. On one CV it says Maters in this and that, and project was this and that. Then no more. On the other CV it says education is XYZ, final project was XYZ and then there are like 10 different real life projects that this guy has done in the past 6-9 months. Who do you think is going to get hired? I would personally hire the guy with the ton of projects to be honest. Even if his marks are not that good. So POLISH your image. It is very easy to do so btw. Go to various charities and offer to do free projects. Whatever niche you like and are studying in, there will be work available. In my example of a tech guy, he can work for a charity to create a simple funding app. You tap what you want to pay the charity and your payment goes to thier micro finance account. It is freakingly easy to make, but it gets your CV beefed up. Apart from charities you can head over to freelance websites and create your account. Put in all of your details and do one project per month. It gives a potential employer peace of mind that this guy knows what hes doing. Polishing your image also includes polishing your physical image. These days people who self teach or stay at home to work get obese, and develop slovenly habits. Believe me when I say this, everyone is turned off by unhealthy people. If two guys of same qualifications come to get a job, the healthy and fit one is sure to get the job. So keep fit, do not overdose on junk food and make sure you are fit. (A bit of personal advice is to get a couple of suits tailored for you. Do not buy off the shelf. A well tailored suit exudes an air of competence.)
So there you have it friends. My humble advice. When you are done with your education, dont rush into it, spend some time investing in yourself. The payback will be monumental in the long run.

Obtaining residency in a foreign country can be one of the most important benefits of buying real estate abroad.

I write frequently about obtaining residency through property purchase, and the examples of good programs are almost always in Latin America.

Now its Europes turn... specifically, Portugal, which is offering a Golden Visa program targeting the foreign investor and property buyer.

For the average buyer with no family connections in Europe, its the best European residency program that I know of right now.

Heres why the Portuguese Golden Visa program is so valuable today:

First and foremost, Portugal is a great place to live, so the chance to obtain residency in the country is naturally attractive. The Portuguese claim to have the best beaches in Europe. The country also offers moderate weather year-round and an abundance of sunshine.

To top it off, the U.S. dollar continues relatively strong against the euro, making the idea of buying property here even more interesting to the U.S. dollar-holder.

Finally, when you become a resident of Portugal you have access to all 26 European countries in the Schengen area. Signed in 1985, the Schengen Agreement predated the European Union and created a "borderless" zone to allow visa-free travel among the signatory countries.

When you obtain a visa under Portugals Golden Visa program, you become eligible for permanent residency after five years and for Portuguese citizenship after six. As an additional benefit, the Golden Visa program allows you to include family members.

When I started researching this essay, I found plenty of misinformation online. The majority of the blog posts out there were mostly right at one time, but few of them were updated to reflect all subsequent changes to Portugals immigration law since the Golden Visa program was introduced in 2007.

You have about 10 options for obtaining an investors visa in Portugal under the Golden Visa program. These vary from million-euro bank transfers or the creation of 10 jobs to investing in artistic or cultural activities or a new business.

My beat is real estate, so Id like to focus on ways you can obtain residency in Portugal by buying property in the country. Lets walk through each alternative…

1: Transfer a million euros to Portugal

This is not a property purchase, per se. The reason I mention this option is that the million-euro transfer is unrestricted, with no caveats on how you spend it. This option could be good for someone who wants to buy one or more properties, perhaps make some other kind of investment, and maybe save some of the transferred funds for future living expenses.

2: Spend 500,000 euros on any property

You can buy a property of any type anywhere in the country costing 500,000 euros (right now, thats about US$575,000) or more.

3: Spend 400,000 euros on any property in a low-density or depressed area

If you buy in a low-density population area (i.e., in the countryside) or an economically depressed area, then the minimum unrestricted investment above is 20% less, or 400,000 euros (about US$460,000).

4: Spend 350,000 euros on an older property or in a "rehabilitation" zone

This threshold applies in two cases:
Properties over 30 years old or...
Properties in areas that the government has targeted for rehabilitation or gentrification. More on this later...
5: Spend 280,000 euros on an older property or in a "rehabilitation" zone thats in a low-density or
    depressed area

This 350k-euro threshold above is lower if you buy in a low-density population area or an economically depressed area. In these cases the minimum is 20% less, or 280,000 euros (US$320,000).

Rehabilitation costs are included towards your minimum with this visa option. So your 350k euros (or 280k euros) can be the sum of the purchase price and the cost of fixing up the property.

The qualifying property can be jointly owned provided the applicant contributed the minimum investment. Also, the property can be owned by a one-person structure, such as an LLC.

Following are the general requirements when applying for any type of residency visa in Portugal.

In addition to your passport and a visa application, you must do the following:
Prove that youve made your chosen investment
    Be in Portugal legally
Show that you are covered by health insurance
Provide an affidavit saying that you promise to comply with the ongoing terms of the visa. These include a requirement to:
    Keep the investment five years
Stay in Portugal 7 days for the first year, and 14 days for each subsequent 2-year period
Prove that you have a clean criminal record in Portugal and your country of origin
Obtain certification from the Portuguese tax authority and social security system that you dont owe them any money
Before applying for a visa, you must create an online account and pre-register so that you can submit the remaining documents online. If youre managing the process yourself, register here... if youre using a lawyer or personal representative, have them register here.

When youre ready you can download the visa application here.

The visa that really holds my interest is the 350k-/280k-euro minimum investment, because theres opportunity there.

To qualify, you can buy a property thats more than 30 years old, or you can buy in a designated urban rehabilitation area (called an área de reabilitação urbana, or ARU).

Either way, youre probably adding value to a place that needs some work. (At least thats the idea... not every 30-year-old home will need work.) And if youre adding value through restoration, you stand to make a nice gain.

But in a rehabilitation area (ARU) youll do even better, because not only are you adding value to your property, but the government is also incentivizing your neighborhoods rehabilitation.

This multiplies the power of your visa investment.

What surprised me is that even the popular Algarve coast has designated ARUs, including in places like Faros historic district. Follow this link to have a look at Portugals ARUs.

If you want to open the door to Europe, this is a great opportunity.

Granted, the investment threshold in Europe is a lot higher than you can get away with in Latin America. An investment of 280k euros is still a lot of money.

But if youre bound for Europe—and you want a chance to profit while obtaining residency—then the Golden Visa program may be just right for you.
