Story Post topic: Mulla Nasrudin & the Donkey's Price

One sunny morning, Mulla Nasrudin trotted into the bustling marketplace riding his faithful, grey donkey. But today was different—he was carrying a massive wooden sign and shouting to the crowd, "A deal of a lifetime! Step right up!"

The villagers gathered around, rubbing their eyes in disbelief. The sign clearly read:
**"FOR SALE: THE DONKEY AND MY SERVICES AS A RIDER!"**

To make things even more absurd, the price listed was a mere single gold coin.

A wealthy merchant pushed through the crowd, pulling out his coin pouch. "Nasrudin! A healthy donkey for just one gold coin? I'll take it right now!"

The Mulla smiled widely, gestured to the crowd, and held up a smaller sign that read: **"...AND MY EXCELLENT ADVICE!"**

"Ah, wait, my friend!" Nasrudin laughed. "The donkey is indeed one gold coin. But as the sign states, it comes with *my services* as its permanent rider... and of course, my non-stop, excellent advice while I ride it! You own the donkey, but I stay on it!"

The marketplace erupted into laughter. The merchant slowly put his gold coin back, realizing that buying Nasrudin's donkey meant buying a lifetime of Nasrudin's antics! ‍

    ### Mulla Nasrudin and the Donkey’s Price
One day, Mulla Nasrudin took his donkey to the market to sell it. The donkey was old but healthy, and Mulla hoped to get a good price.
As he stood in the market, a wealthy merchant came over and asked, “Mulla, how much do you want for your donkey?”
Mulla thought for a moment and replied, “One hundred gold coins.”
The merchant laughed. “One hundred gold coins? That donkey is not worth half that amount!”
Mulla smiled and said, “Perhaps. But this donkey has carried me safely for many years. It knows every road in the village, never gets lost, and always brings me home. To me, it is worth much more than one hundred gold coins.”
The merchant shook his head and walked away.
Soon another man approached and asked the same question. Again, Mulla said, “One hundred gold coins.”
The man was surprised. “Why is the price so high?”
Mulla answered, “Because the donkey is honest. It has never lied to me, never cheated me, and never borrowed money it could not repay!”
    The crowd burst into laughter.
Finally, a friend asked, “Mulla, if you think so highly of this donkey, why are you trying to sell it?”
Mulla grinned and replied, “I am not sure I want to sell it. But if someone is willing to pay one hundred gold coins, I might change my mind!”
The people laughed even louder, and Mulla happily led his donkey back home.
**Moral:** The value of something often depends on the owner’s perspective, and sometimes people set a high price because they do not really want to part with what they have.

Long before modern airplanes, highways, and the internet connected the world, **trade routes brought distant communities together**. From ancient caravan paths across Asia and Africa to maritime routes across the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, these networks helped transform human history.

**Trade routes moved much more than goods.**
Silk, spices, gold, precious stones, textiles, metals, food, and other valuable products traveled across continents. But along with these goods came something equally important: **ideas, technologies, languages, beliefs, traditions, and knowledge**.

    **They helped economies grow.**
Cities located along important routes often became busy centers of trade. Merchants, craftsmen, sailors, and travelers created new economic opportunities, while ports and marketplaces connected producers and consumers across great distances.

    **They spread knowledge and innovation.**
Technologies, scientific ideas, navigation techniques, agricultural practices, and inventions could travel from one region to another. Trade networks therefore helped knowledge move across cultural and geographic boundaries.

    **They connected different cultures.**
People from different societies met in markets, ports, and trading cities. These encounters encouraged cultural exchange and influenced food, clothing, art, architecture, languages, and traditions.

**They influenced the rise of cities and empires.**
Controlling important trade routes could provide wealth and strategic advantages. As a result, powerful states and empires competed to control important roads, ports, and commercial centers.

    **Maritime trade changed global connections.**
Sea routes across the Indian Ocean and other waterways allowed merchants to transport large quantities of goods between distant regions. Over time, expanding maritime networks helped create increasingly interconnected economies.

    **The legacy continues today.**
Modern global trade, international shipping, major ports, and interconnected economies are part of a much longer history of people exchanging goods and ideas across borders.

**In short:** Trade routes did not simply move products from one place to another. They helped **move people, ideas, technology, cultures, and knowledge**, creating connections that shaped the history of the world.

Mulla Nasruddin and the Magical Mirror

Once upon a time, Sultan of a great kingdom heard about a difficult problem troubling his people. No one could find a clever solution, so the Sultan called Mulla Nasruddin to the palace.

The Sultan gave Mulla a magical mirror and said, “This mirror shows the truth. Use it wisely and solve the problem.”

Mulla looked into the mirror and noticed something strange. Whenever a person looked at it, the mirror showed not their face, but their true intentions.

Mulla took the mirror to the marketplace. He asked the people involved in the problem to look into it. A greedy merchant, who had been blaming an innocent man, looked into the mirror and became embarrassed when he saw his own greed.

Mulla smiled and said, “Sometimes, the biggest problem is not outside us. It is hidden inside our own hearts.”

The merchant admitted his mistake and returned what he had taken. The innocent man was freed, and peace returned to the marketplace.

The Sultan was amazed by Mulla's wisdom.

“You solved the problem without using the mirror to punish anyone,” said the Sultan.

Mulla replied, “Your Majesty, the mirror only showed the truth. The real magic was helping people see their own mistakes.”

    Moral

True wisdom is not about finding faults in others; it is about having the courage to see and correct our own mistakes.

Story post topic: **Mulla Nasrudin's Magic Cloak**

What if a simple old cloak could teach one of life's greatest lessons?

One chilly evening, Mulla Nasrudin appeared in the marketplace wearing a worn-out cloak that looked ordinary to everyone around him. Curious people asked why he valued such an old piece of clothing so much. With a mysterious smile, Mulla replied, "This is no ordinary cloak—it has magic."

The crowd gathered eagerly, hoping to witness something extraordinary. As the day went on, Mulla visited different places. At a wealthy merchant's house, he was welcomed with respect and offered a delicious feast. Later, after removing the cloak and dressing simply, he returned to the same house—but this time, no one recognized him, and he was turned away at the door.

The next day, Mulla returned wearing the cloak again. Once more, he received a warm welcome and was invited to dine. As the food was served, Mulla gently dipped the sleeve of his cloak into the soup and said, "Eat, my magic cloak, eat!"

The guests were shocked and asked what he was doing. Mulla smiled and explained, "Yesterday, when I came without this cloak, I was ignored. Today, with the cloak, I am treated like an honored guest. Clearly, the food is meant for the cloak, not for me."

Everyone fell silent, realizing they had judged a person by appearance instead of character.

**Moral of the Story:** Never judge people by their clothes, wealth, or outward appearance. A person's true value lies in their kindness, wisdom, honesty, and actions—not in what they wear.

    Mulla Nasrudin's Wise Answer

One afternoon, Mulla Nasrudin was sitting beneath a large tree in the town square, enjoying the cool breeze. People often came to him with difficult questions because they knew his answers were always filled with wisdom.

A wealthy merchant approached Mulla and asked, "Mulla, I've traveled the world and earned a fortune, but I'm still not satisfied. Tell me, what is the greatest treasure a person can possess?"

    Aleem Khan Saba Ibrahim

Mulla smiled and replied, "Before I answer, let me ask you a question. If you were lost in a desert with a bag full of gold but no water, which would you choose?"

The merchant answered without hesitation, "Water, of course. Gold would be useless."

Mulla nodded and said, "Exactly. The value of anything depends on the situation. Wealth is useful, but wisdom teaches you when, where, and how to use it."

The merchant thought for a moment and then asked, "So, if you had to choose between wisdom and wealth, which one would you choose?"

Mulla looked at him with a gentle smile and said, "I would choose wisdom."

The merchant looked surprised. "Why not wealth?"

Mulla laughed softly and replied, "Because with wisdom, I can earn wealth. But with wealth and no wisdom, I could lose everything."

The people gathered around listened carefully. One young man asked, "Then why do so many people spend their lives chasing money?"

Mulla answered, "Because they believe money will solve every problem. They forget that without wisdom, money can create even bigger problems."

The merchant lowered his head, realizing the truth in Mulla's words.

Before leaving, he said, "Today, you've given me something more valuable than gold."

Mulla smiled and replied, "Knowledge increases when shared, but money decreases when spent. Invest in wisdom first, and everything else will follow."

The merchant thanked Mulla and walked away, determined to seek wisdom before chasing more wealth.

    Moral of the Story

True wealth is not measured by the money you own but by the wisdom you possess. Wisdom helps you make better decisions, overcome challenges, and use your blessings wisely. Money may buy comfort, but wisdom builds a meaningful and successful life.

The marketplace fell quiet as the evening sky turned deep blue. Mulla Nasrudin sat calmly on his wooden bench, surrounded by a curious crowd waiting for his final answer.
Ahmed, the wealthy young merchant, leaned in close, eager to catch the Mulla in a contradiction. "Alright, Nasrudin. If the donkey is cheap but patience is expensive, how much for the whole package? What is the *true* price of wisdom?"
Nasrudin smiled, raising a single finger toward the crescent moon. "My dear boy, wisdom cannot be bought with the copper coins on this table, nor the gold in your pockets."
The crowd held its breath. Nasrudin continued softly, "The true price of wisdom is simply the willingness to admit when you don't know everything. Tonight, you learned that a bargain isn't always about the item—it's about the reality of holding onto it."
Ahmed looked at the coins, then at the sleepy donkey, and finally at the smiling Mulla. For the first time all day, the young man smiled back, finally understanding the lesson.

What is the *true* price of wisdom?" 💰 Nasrudin smiled, raising a single finger toward the crescent moon. ☝️🌙 "My dear boy, wisdom cannot be bought with the copper coins on this table, nor the gold in your pockets." 🪙❌ The crowd held its breath. Nasrudin continued softly, "The true price of wisdom is simply the willingness to admit when you don't know everything. Tonight, you learned that a bargain isn't always about the item—it's about the reality of holding onto it." 💡🧠 Ahmed looked at the coins, then at the sleepy donkey, and finally at the smiling Mulla. For the first time all day, the young man smiled back, finally understanding the lesson. 🤝😌 #MullaNasrudin #WiseWords #Folklore #MarketplaceWisdom #LifeLessons #WittyTales #AncientWisdom #MindsetShift
