Sir why knowing tou can see people begging yesterday i was coming from karachi to back at my home town near pakistan coach bus station in Saddar i saw a young guy lying on the open street without clothes.. I saw around 50 people sleeping on some floor of a car parking building.. All these people are helpless. So it is obvious to pin point that they must be hardly getting their 2 times meal a day.. City of Karachi: The New Social Contract I believe this is the only meaningful way forward for Karachi. We should become a leading light for the next 100 cities of Pakistan instead of waiting for the local government system to be fixed in the rest of the country. 1. Merger of Karachi into a Single District 2. Unity of Command under the Office of the Mayor 3. City to be organised around neighbourhoods e.g Gulshan-e-Iqbal, DHA, Clifton, Saddar, FB Area, Qayyumabad and so on instead of East, West, Central etc. 4. Each neighbourhood to have its Local Council with a Chairman. All members of the Local Council to be residents of the area. 5. Citizens of Karachi to be deeply involved in all levels of decision-making. 6. Members of the City Council should be less in number (e.g 30) but elected based on city-wide voting - top candidates becoming representatives. Their role is vision-setting and non-operational. 7. Mayor should be directly elected by the city and should form his own team: education, health, economy, security etc. 8. All non-elected Administrators, City Agencies & Organisations report to the Office of the Mayor and Local Councils including KDA, KWSB, Police, DHA, Clifton, Malir, Landhi, Lyari, Korangi, SITE and so on. 9. City should generate its own funds through land tax, road tax, parking tax, water and sewerage tax, taxes on electricity, etc. More sources (from provincial and federal) to be added to increase total collections to Rs. 300+ billion. 10. Mayor's responsibility is building a sustainable, inclusive, vibrant, culturally rich, progressive, prosperous city with deep and ongoing consultation with the only stakeholders who matter: people who live here. OBJECTIVE: The basic purpose of our event “Azadi Safarnama” is to celebrate’ Jashn e Azadi’ with the minorities of our country, which is somehow the most neglected community. Despite of all the religious conflicts, "We are starting with this fundamental principle that we all are equal citizens of one State and posses equal rights”, said Muhammad Ali Jinnah. VENUE DETAILS: we are planning to visit two major minority areas which is “Naraynpura” near civil hospital and “Swaminarayan” at light house, Saddar Karachi. These areas are very historic because large number of minority communities are settled their even before the establishment of Pakistan. Population of this area contains approx 10 thousand people, which may belong to nearly 250 or 300 Hindu, Christian and Sikh families. This area of Karachi is the great example of religious harmony in Pakistan. AGENDA: it is completely an outdoor activity. All have to report at civil hospital sharp 12 am. After briefing we will proceed further. Keep in mind that we have to respect their religious places like temples mandirs churches etc. there is a lot for us to visit and recall our history.
