EID MUBAARAK to my Muslim friends & family from Lahore to Kashmir to Lucknow. May Allah grant you all the joy and affection that you all have so selflessly given me. Not sure I deserve it entirely
I have no Muslim ancestry that I am aware of but I have always felt a spirit of kinship with you and felt welcome in your hearts and homes.
Hamesha ek apnaeeyat, ek unseeyat ka ehsaas hua aapkay saath.
Hum sab jaantay hain ki yeh daur Musalmaan qaum ke liye badee aazmaaish ka waqt hai - I give you a Hug of solidarity and say Namaste to you with respect for your boundless grace under pressure.
You have brought to this land many exquisite elements by way of Art & Culture, Cuisine, Costume, Architecture etc but most importantly you have by your sheer presence, dignity of demeanour and open heartedness given us Hindus the chance to get out of our skin and see beauty & goodness of another tonality too.
I feel awash and immersed in your love.
Truth be told, I have always been a bit of an odd ball. My childhood was solitary and friendless. I guess I am what pop psychology calls a Late Bloomer. I made my first real friends as late as during my Masters degree study at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi. For the first time in my life I felt accepted and embraced. I felt I was home
So from that deep, difficult, awkward and personal place I send you my gratitude.
South Asia would not be the same without you. I would not be the same without you!

ham hī ham haiñ to kyā ham haiñ tum hī tum ho to kyā tum ho”
Aur phir mujhay woh mazay mazay ke khaanay kahaan milaingay - because Ba Khuda Eid is the yummiest of all festivals
