  • Are jews choosen people ? - By Rabbi Gershon Steinberg-Caudill

    By Rabbi Gershon Winkler

Regarding the question about the Jews claiming to be the chosen people, and how that has led to antisemitism: my feeling is that we never claimed to the world to be the chosen people. We claimed it to ourselves, no less and no more than did the Celts claim that they were the chosen ones, or the Hopi Indians, or the Lakota Sioux or the Egyptians, or the Greeks. It is not our fault that Christianity TOOK our personal diary from us and published it all over the world. It is the early Church in its claim to be the only true religion that used our scriptures to prove this by quoting about how we were chosen by God, so that by replacing us, they became automatically the NEWLY chosen ones.

But we Jews never publicized to the world that God had chosen us over any other. On the contrary, throughout the Tenakh we were reminded again and again that we are not THE chosen people, but A chosen people, meaning a people chosen amongst many others.

Here are a few examples from the Tenakh, the private diary of the Jewish people:
"In that day shall Israel be third alongside Egypt and Assyria, as a blessing on earth; for God will bless them, saying: Blessed be my people Egypt, my handiwork Assyria, and my inheritance Israel" (Isaiah 19:24).

"Are you not just like the Children of the Ethiopians unto me, O Children of Israel? Did I not bring out Israel from the Land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caftor, and Aram from Kir?" (Amos 9:7).

    From the Talmud:
"It is written, There never again arose among the Israelites a prophet as great as Moses (Deuteronomy 34:10) --among the Israelites there never again arose a prophet as great as Moses, but amongst other peoples, it is certainly probable!" (Midrash Bamidbar Rabbah 14:19).

Martin Buber put it this way: "As a historical people, Israel enjoys no precedence over any other. Like Israel, the other peoples were all wanderers and settlers; they came up from a land of want and servitude into their present homeland. The one God, the Redeemer and Leader of the peoples, strode before all of them upon their way -- even the hostile neighboring peoples -- protecting them by His might. He guided their steps, gave them power, let them inherit the soil of a people that had been ruined by its sins and abandoned by history." (From "Martin Buber On the Bible", edited by N. Glatzer [Schocken Books, 1982], p. 80).

I believe that we believe that God does not discriminate between one people and another. That God loves the Palestinians as much as [God loves] the Israelis. Sort of like a mother who writes six letters to her six children, and in each letter she writes "You are my favorite. I love you more than anything in the world!" This is why we never went out missionizing to people. We believed every-one had their own divine revelation and each their path is sacred as long as they dont use it to destroy others. A tzadik (righteous person), the Talmud teaches, is not someone who is a holy Jew, but someone of ANY faith or [ANY] people who is righteous by their actions. A tzadik is not determined by belief or religious affiliation but by how they live their life.

So, no we are not any more chosen than the aboriginals of Australia. We are equally chosen. And when we say "asher bachar banu meekol haameem" (who chose in us from all the nations) we mean that we thank God for choosing us, too, from among all the other nations, meaning from among all those other peoples who were chosen long before we were.

Of course the average traditional Jew will think about this differently. I believe that is because we have as a people been persecuted for so long that our religious teachers kept impressing upon us how precious we were to God in order to lift up our downtrodden spirits. A people oppressed for close to two thousand years needs to hear that they are important, chosen, the highest of the high. But theologically it is totally incorrect. We are different than most, yes. But we are not more important to God than most. God likes us because we are funny. We gave the world more comedians than anyone else.

We are not hated because we claim to be chosen. We are hated because of the venom spread against us by the New Testament story of the Jews calling for the crucifixion of Jesus, which has been proven again and again as historically and theologically fictitious, but it is already a poison well-entrenched in every-one influenced by the Church, whether Christian or not, which is practically the entire world today.

I think another factor of this chosen people problem is not anything we say or said to the world as much as what the world assumes we say about ourselves or think about ourselves, because the world sees us as uncompromising, tenaciously clinging to our peculiar and often politically-incorrect ways, even when those ways clash with the rest of the world. We have always been different, and always refused to conform to the religious and cultural ways of those who have conquered us, whether Babylonian, Greek, Roman, Christian, etc. which led them to assume that we thought ourselves special. Why dont the Jews give in? They couldnt understand it. Everyone else who was conquered adopted the conquerors ways. Everyone but the Jews. Which may naturally lead people to think that we think we are too special, chosen by God or the gods. Our crime was our stubborn refusal to compromise our beliefs and our ways, and so we chose death more often than any other conquered people, rather than conform or convert.

Our crime was not our claim to be chosen. Our crime was our claim to the right to believe as we wished.

And for that we have paid dearly.

    Why is Malala, #Malala

    From Abdul Wali:

Now carefully learn here, I have written it myself and I know her since 2008:

    1) she is the greatest because she stood up for her education in the age of 11 years back in 2008 when the Taliban closed her school.

    2) Taliban blown Up hundreds of schools in Swat and the remaining were closed especially the Girls schools, but Malala did not accept it and started protest against this in her town, and finally got back to school with other students. This was a time when a BIG General even could that openly protest in Swat and She did it. So she is the greatest again.

    3) in the time of war in Swat, she went to Peshawar and Islamabad to protest nationwide against the Taliban and for the girls whos education was affected.

    4) She secretly wrote a diary for BBC with the name of "Gul Makai" which later became a very popular diary in the local media of Pakistan.

    5) Her struggles brought children back to school in 2009, and thus it was the courage that others boys & girls went to schools in Swat without any fear in the leadership of Malala Yousaf the Greatest.

    6) After peace restoration in Swat in 2009, she began to appear on Pakistani Channels and started promoting tourism in Swat and she did struggles for bringing people back to Swat because she was the only greatest one who could speak so effectively.

    7) after this all 3 years struggles in 2011, she was nominated for International children peace prize award which she didnt win, but she got international and local media attention. source is here:
    http://tribune.com.pk/.../swats-malala-runner-up-for.../
Malala this award again in 2013, but in 2011 she was run up, see the people comment there on the post who now are acting as idiots.

    8) After this all till 2011 she was a national hero and given many Awards including the national Peace award for youth by PM Raza Gilani and Punjab biggest award by Shahbaz Sharif. everyone in Pakistan used to say her a hero till October 2012. She appeared on so many local channels in 2009, 2010, 2011. Source of award:
    http://www.thenews.com.pk/article-29002-Malala-Yousafzai...

    9) She has a BIG rule in restoration of peace in Swat therefore she used to be invited by Universities, colleges, schools for speeches about peace and children in Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore and Islamabad, during that I met her once in Karachi and I found her the greatest.

    10) At the age of 11 or 12 years a girl in Pakistan can not do this, parents protect their children inside the rooms for safety, but she said to her father that I would get my education even if I lose my life, because she was the greatest, and still she is.

The above all facts are before the October 2012 Attack, because after the attack everyone knows why she was the greatest.

And you would love to watch these videos of Malala the greatest from 2009 to 2012 before the attack.

Interview on in 2009 when she was famous in PK:

Interview when she was nominated in 2011 for International peace award:

  • Most Pakistanis don’t realize that Pakistan is 200 million people that is 2% of the planet !

90% of the planet knows pakistan due to Osama BIN Ladins Death

If you want to change that, you have to become incredible yourself and reach out inside of you and bring out the amazing human that god has made you

Below is a post from Abdul Wali

While exiting Tanzania, at the airport I was standing in the line for immigration, I was just thinking that I have to write a post about very good experience in Africa with Pakistani passport. The immigration officer called "next please" and it was my turn. I handed over my passport to her.

She saw it and immediately called another officer, she told me that go with my boss. The boss took me to a room and stared at me a few times then opened the passport and looked at every page and then he started asking questions.

    Officer: do you know Osama?
    Me: who is Osama?
    Officer: Osama Bin Laden
    Me: Yes
Officer: is he dead or not?
    Me: Yes he is dead
    Officer: where?
Me: according to news, he was dead in Abbottabad
    Officer: whats Abbottabad?
    Me: a city in Pakistan
Officer: so you are from Osamas country?
Me: no no, he was not from Pakistan, he was just hiding there

He asked many questions and checked my visa as well as asked for return ticket to Pakistan. But the Osama question was very weird for me, because I have no beard and nothing like the jihadi guys. And so I decided not to write about "good experience" in Africa with Pakistani passport. #Africa #Tanzania #TravelDiary

  • In Islamic theology, there are indeed concepts related to pre-existence and the afterlife that touch upon the idea of souls having connections before they are born into this world. These concepts are primarily derived from Islamic teachings about the realms of existence, known as **Alam al-Arwah** (the world of souls) and **Barzakh** (the intermediary state).

    ### Alam al-Arwah (The World of Souls)

    1. **Pre-Existence of Souls**:
    - According to Islamic belief, all souls were created by Allah before they were given physical bodies. This realm is referred to as Alam al-Arwah.
    - There is a hadith (saying of the Prophet Muhammad) that supports the idea of souls having pre-existing relationships:
    - **Hadith**: "Souls are like conscripted soldiers; those whom they recognized, they get along with, and those whom they do not recognize, they will not get along with." (Sahih Muslim, Book 45, Hadith 159).
    - This hadith suggests that the souls had familiarity and relationships with each other before being sent into the physical world.

    ### Barzakh (The Intermediary State)

    2. **Concept of Barzakh**:
    - Barzakh is an intermediate state where souls reside after death and before the Day of Judgment. It is a barrier between the physical world and the afterlife.
    - While the primary function of Barzakh is related to the afterlife, some interpretations and cultural beliefs extend the idea of pre-existing soul relationships into this realm as well.

    ### Relevant References

    1. **Quran**:
    - The Quran mentions the creation of souls and the testimony they gave to Allah before their physical creation: "And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], Am I not your Lord? They said, Yes, we have testified." (Quran 7:172). This verse implies a primordial covenant and awareness among souls.

    2. **Hadith**:
    - The aforementioned hadith from Sahih Muslim is often cited in discussions about the pre-existing relationships between souls.

    ### Understanding in Islamic Tradition

    - **Sufism and Mystical Interpretations**:
    - Sufi traditions, which often explore deeper spiritual and mystical aspects of Islam, frequently discuss the pre-existence of souls and their interactions. The concept of divine love and spiritual connections before earthly life is a common theme in Sufi poetry and thought.

    - **Scholarly Interpretations**:
    - Islamic scholars have varied interpretations of these concepts. Some emphasize the metaphorical understanding of pre-existing relationships to explain the ease or difficulty of human interactions in this world.

In summary, while mainstream Islamic theology focuses more on the accountability and journey of the soul, there are traditions and teachings within Islam that acknowledge pre-existing relationships among souls before their earthly existence. These concepts are primarily supported by hadith and interpretations of Quranic verses.
