• Alhamdo Lillah, I’ve completed my 100 MOOCs today. I wanted to compare it with the 100 courses that I’ve taken during my Bachelor, Masters and PhD in Computer Science. The traditional route of diploma/degree took me 12 years and costs $291,000 (tuition fee alone). The MOOCs route costs $9,300 and 4 years only. I’ve taken courses from Coursera, Udacity, Udemy, Lynda, MasterClass, UNIC, eDX, Harvard, DataCamp, Big Data University, YouTube, Hamilton Booz Allen, IBM, Experfy, SimpliLearn and GetSmarter. The cheapest was for Free and the most expensive was for $2,800. The Best Course was from Professor Daniel Chamovitz (What a Plant Knows) of Tel Aviv University. I’ve taken courses from Data Science to Medieval Magic and from Quran to Fashion Design, from Writing to Deep Learning and from Blockchain to Genomics. My 12 years of traditional learning landed me a job of assistant professor at GIKI for $810/month and my MOOCs have prepared me for a CTO job in the US for $20,000/month. Thanks God I am homeschooling my kids. I will be writing a detailed paper on my findings after Eid. Here is the list for you guys to enjoy and learn

  • Hello Teachers,

Tariq Rashid am looking for a Lady Teacher who can help my 4 kids (Class FS1, 1, 3 and 5) in E-Learning (HomeSchooling).

Their school is doing a great job sending them videos and giving assignments on video calls. So you just need to help them complete the activities/assignments & kids will take picture from their iPads & post back on the applications. The schooling is fully English based so you need to speak English with Kids.

Kids sometimes dont understand that what activity needs to be done, How it needs to be done and how to post back.

They use Microsoft Teams, OneNote and SeeSaw App.

    How it works.

Teachers Post Videos Lessons + Activities/Assignments on online Apps.

You need to assist them in the activities (you should not to do it)

You will take 15 Minutes with each Kid each hour. Send word tango in you message first so so I can see you read the whole thing. You need to start from 9AM to 3PM on Zoom Video call.

Must meet following Requirements otherwise dont bother.

Internet speed must be over 10mbps. Go to https://fast.com and send me screenshot.

Must be fluent in English especially speaking. I will test before starting.

    Must be calm with Kids.

Must have at least 5 years of experience of teaching, Will need the evidence.

Should have a separate room from where you can take video call.

Must have own good computer with good video camera.

Candidates with extra power source like UPS, Knowledge of Arabic and French will be preferred.

Salary will be good or near to as you ask.

Please only contact if you pass above requirements otherwise dont bother please.

    Inbox him or Comment!

    Thank You

  • "Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling" by John Taylor Gatto offers a critical examination of the modern educational system. Gatto, an award-winning teacher, provides insights into how compulsory schooling undermines true learning and personal development. Here are the key points and a summary of the book:

    ### Summary
John Taylor Gatto uses his extensive experience as a teacher to expose what he believes are the detrimental effects of the traditional schooling system. He argues that the system is designed to create a conformist and obedient workforce rather than fostering intellectual and emotional growth. Through a collection of essays, Gatto highlights how the structure and methods of compulsory schooling serve to "dumb down" students.

    ### Key Points

    1. **The Seven-Lesson Schoolteacher**:
    - Gatto outlines the implicit lessons taught in schools, which include confusion, class position, indifference, emotional dependency, intellectual dependency, provisional self-esteem, and the lack of privacy.
    - These lessons, he argues, undermine the development of critical thinking and personal autonomy.

    2. **Boredom and Dependency**:
    - Gatto claims that the school system fosters boredom in students and teachers alike. He suggests that this boredom is a result of a lack of meaningful engagement and an overemphasis on rote learning.
    - The dependency created by the school environment discourages students from taking charge of their own education and fosters reliance on external authority.

    3. **The Myth of the Good Student**:
    - Gatto challenges the notion that the best students are those who comply with the systems demands. He argues that true learning happens when students pursue their interests and passions, often outside the confines of formal education.

    4. **Family and Community as Educators**:
    - The book emphasizes the importance of family and community in the education process. Gatto believes that real education is rooted in these social structures rather than in institutional settings.

    5. **Alternatives to Compulsory Schooling**:
    - Gatto advocates for alternatives to traditional schooling, including homeschooling, unschooling, and other forms of self-directed learning.
    - He argues that these approaches can better cater to individual learning styles and promote a more holistic development.

    6. **Critique of Standardized Testing**:
    - Gatto criticizes the over-reliance on standardized tests, which he believes measure conformity rather than genuine understanding or intelligence.
    - He argues that these tests fail to capture the full spectrum of human abilities and potential.

    7. **The Purpose of Education**:
    - At its core, Gattos book questions the true purpose of education. He believes that education should be about nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to learn independently.

    ### Conclusion
"Dumbing Us Down" calls for a reevaluation of how society approaches education. Gattos critique is a powerful reminder of the potential harm caused by a one-size-fits-all schooling system and serves as a call to action for more personalized and meaningful approaches to learning.

    rehanschool.com/books
