  • Alone

From childhoods hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
    My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

  • Any discussion of ideas and thoughts should be encouraged as long it does NOT lead to any violence or hate, even if it is controversial/different/unconventional/out of our comfort zone. Many of the historic cities built by Islamic Kingdoms were centers of learning that created amazing science, architecture and literature. Think about many Muslim poets - Sufi Babas, we all grew up reading and even read today. Lets us all pray that we continue to have a open hearted conversation and discussion on all issues/topics. I have met Malala. And I CELEBRATE her as a leader and as a voice of millions who do not have a voice. I also worry about her losing out on playing in the backyards, parks and simply being a young child. But having seen the impact she has has made - this is her personal sacrifice for the greater good. May God keep her safe and bless her with long peaceful life. Amen.

  • “Why We Fast: The Beginning of a Dialogue”

Imam Sohaib Sultan, Muslim Life Coordinator and Chaplain at Princeton University, and his co-host Rabbi Moshe Silver invite you to a Muslim / Jewish shared day of fasting on Tuesday, 15 July, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Murray-Dodge Hall on the Princeton campus.

Tuesday is the seventeenth day of the Muslim month of Ramadan, when dawn to dusk fasting is observed for the entire month. It is also the seventeenth day of the Jewish month of Tammuz, a day-long fast in the Jewish religious calendar.

The Imam and the Rabbi will each speak briefly on the significance of the fast day from the Islamic and Jewish perspectives. Participants will be invited to share their own observations and feelings.

Imam Sultan and Rabbi Silver have chosen this shared fast day in response to the tragic situation unfolding in the part of the world where we all first received the Word of God. Following the call of Israeli poet Eliaz Cohen, we offer this brief encounter as a communal Hunger Strike Against Violence. It is our shared hope and fervent prayer that, God willing, the good will of people who strive to follow God’s will can vanquish the hatred of those who are convinced that God speaks only to them.

  • Artists do their work not for their appreciation, but because they enjoy that art, Poets write poetry to satisfy their soul not to get appreciation from the listeners, You should also do what YOU LOVE to do for YOURSELF not for appreciation, You do your best, and some time in future YOU ALSO may get Appreciated for what you did, when the time is Right. !!! But remember, you have to do 1000% of the job not 90% and expect appreciation.
