  • From the The White House

    Hello everyone,

The very best person to talk to about how modern technology is changing our classrooms isnt me, or even the President.

Its a student who is actually learning from those tools every day -- accessing school assignments online, watching video lessons to learn a new concept, or even talking directly with other students around the world with new technology.

Thats why, a few months ago, the White House challenged students all across the country to create short films answering a simple question:

Why is technology so important in the classroom -- and how will it change the educational experience for kids in the future?

The response was overwhelming. And today, the 16 official selections are going to be screened at the first-ever White House Student Film Festival.

Youre going to want to tune in for this one. Watch the official selections, then tune in today at 2:30 p.m. ET.

    Watch Now
Todays going to be a fun day, but this event speaks to something much bigger.

Thats because these students films all illustrate the critical conversation about education in our country right now: the importance of connecting our classrooms.

The fact is that right now, only around 30 percent of our students have the high-speed Internet access they need for digital learning. That means millions of kids across the country arent currently benefiting from the kinds of technologies that made the student films youll watch today possible.

The Presidents ConnectED initiative is making sure that changes -- by connecting 99 percent of students to next-generation, high-speed broadband within five years.

Want to see exactly why thats so important? Just take a look at some of the incredible things kids can produce when theyre connected.

See the official film festival selections, then make sure youre watching the event at 2:30 p.m. ET today.

Looking forward to continuing the conversation,

    Secretary Arne Duncan
    Department of Education

The most obvious signs that militants have nothing to do with Islam and the Prophet. Before engaging in battle, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) instructed his soldiers:
    1. “Do not kill any child, any woman, or any elder or sick person.” (Sunan Abu Dawud)
    2. “Do not practice treachery or mutilation.(Al-Muwatta)
    3. Do not uproot or burn palms or cut down fruitful trees.(Al-Muwatta)
    4. Do not slaughter a sheep or a cow or a camel, except for food.” (Al-Muwatta)
    5. “If one fights his brother, [he must] avoid striking the face, for God created him in the image of Adam.” (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
    6. “Do not kill the monks in monasteries, and do not kill those sitting in places of worship. (Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal)
    7. “Do not destroy the villages and towns, do not spoil the cultivated fields and gardens, and do not slaughter the cattle.” (Sahih Bukhari; Sunan Abu Dawud)
    8. “Do not wish for an encounter with the enemy; pray to God to grant you security; but when you [are forced to] encounter them, exercise patience.” (Sahih Muslim)
    9. “No one may punish with fire except the Lord of Fire.” (Sunan Abu Dawud).
    10. “Accustom yourselves to do good if people do good, and to not do wrong even if they commit evil.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
These barbarians violate every single conduct of Islam during a battle

Aap Ali se kesey milin..??" is the most Frequently asked question since I got married. My reply has been very simple so far "On Facebook"... but reactions on my answer have never been that Simple.. Now I really want to copy paste the answers of all "Whattt?? Howww??? How did your parents agree" etc etc..
*Scene cut hota hai.. aur Saira Puraani Yaadon mein khho jaati hai*
It was July 2009, one of my school fellow posted some status on Facebook.. I didnt know anything about the topic.. but I started teasing her.. Many of her friends got involved..& her masoom sa status became a huge controversial issue...I was on one side.. n all her friends on the other side..They all made their useless efforts to convince me that I was Wrong.. But how could I be convinced..? since I already knew that I was actually WRONG Throughout whole conversation.. "Ali Syed" was the one who liked my every comment (yeah..my only strength :D) but he himself didnt comment anything.. That topic remained hot for a long time..but I stopped following it.. It was August 28... I logged in facebook n saw Alis msg..it was a very short.. really short... only 4 words sentence.. "Will Saira Marry Ali..? I got "Chup".. I didnt expect such short straight proposal in my dreams.. Let me copy paste my most memorable chat ever.. Ali Syed: Will Saira Marry Ali" Saira: Who is ALI? Ali Syed: Sairas to-be-husband Saira: In your Dreams..! Ali Syed: Saira Ali will now see all Dreams together forever n then our chats continued... he insisted me to meet.. n suddenly I became "mashriqi larki".. all my ammas lessons echoed n I said NO point blank
Scene cut hota hai..aur Intermission se pehley wali halchal machti hai*
It was October 2009, I came back from office... n amma told me "Jo tumhen pasand karta hai.. us ne tumhara rishta bheja hai"... I gulped tea.. got stunned to know all the story.. That gentleman sent his amma with flowers & mithaaye".. ammi asked me "batao kia jawab dun?? Sir jhuka k I replied "jo aap ko sahe lagay..mujhe koi interest nahe hai" but my heart shouted Out loud.."Haan.. haan.. haan".. Aur phir.. "Haan" hogaye
    *Climax*
It was a lovely evening "9 November 2009".. our first DATE I took my youngest cousin to Dolmen Mall Hydri.. we were sitting in food court.. n Ali entered.. my heart startded beating abnormally..( aur dil hi dil mein Filmstar Shabnam se un k sharmanay per mazaq uranay ki maafi maangi :D) Ali sat on the next table.. My cousin was in play area.. n we started sms chat.. A lovely evening indeed.. Qissa Mukhtasir.. I became Mrs Ali... The best thing ever happened to me he hasnt changed a bit. Our life is now settled Alhumdolillah..(ya ya except that Saas issue.. lol :D)
Sometimes Ali asks me.."Tum itna ala bala likhti rehti ho.. ye batao k hamaray bachon ko kia batao gi k hum kesey milay".. & I tell him straight k mein bataon gi k beta tumhari Daadi ne mujhe shaadi mein pasand kia tha..bara sakht zamana thha bhy... mein ne to tumharay baba ko shaadi k baad dekha ghoonghat mein se.. hamaray zamanay mein to tasawwur hi nahe thha Love marriage ka" Ali laughs n ask.."Aur agar kabhi tumhari beti kahay k amma mujhe aik larka pasand aagaya hai.. to?? & I always tell him k mein kahun gi .."uhoon beta..! buri baat..!!
