In October 2001, his family met a road traffic accident resulting in his three year old son with a brain injury. Mahmood had to leave his Pakistan job and quit his PhD research in order to get the best medical and therapeutic treatment for his son. In 2005, Mahmood completed an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Bristol while his son was still under treatment. In 2009, he re-took a PhD research part-time in Software Engineering and completed in 2015.

    He is now actively looking for roles as a research fellow and has strong interest in Big Data and Machine Learning with Semantic Information Repositories.

    Mahmood is a self-made person, he started tutoring Mathematics and English when he was 11 years old. Later, he also started giving career advice to students of FSc and BSc in Multan and Islamabad, and later to GCSE and A-Level students in the UK (from 2000 to date). He has taught at postgraduate levels and is staunch supporter of womens education in Pakistan.
